Default APS Induction Kit on a 1998 car??

Has anyone used an APS induction kit (with the filter in the wing) on a 1998, or same spec car?

I did fit a Blitz filter, but didn't like the "hoover" noise too much. However.....I have since fitted a full de-cat exhaust, so there's a bit more noise anyway, so I'm thinking of going back to some sort of induction kit, as the general comments I've read are that the engines can produce far better power than with a panel filter.

Any comments and sugestions for kits/filters appreciated.

Marty

Unless you are getting rid of the MAF Sensor with a Link ECU or similar, DO NOT fit an APS CAK.

Agree with HArvey re APS kit.

My personal choice would be K&N

Martin: For £40 or there abouts you can get a suitable K+N. With suitable silicone hose you can make your own system which could be better and far cheaper than a manufacturers set up, especially if you do a cold air system.
If you are stuck I could show you what is needed or even do it for you.

Harvey,

I'll catch up with you at the TTS meet then eh?

I've seen your intake, with it's panelling to isolate the filter from the rest of the engine bay.

Is the problem with the APS kit, the fact that it's mounted in the wing (where all the sh*t can get to it)?

I suppose getting the correct size/shape silicone hose would allow the fitting of a K&N anywhere really wouldn't it......just have to source the hose.

Harvey

Did you use some special piping to connect to the narrow edge on the K&N? - I was just a little concerned as the Subaru inlet housing (black twisty thing) does not fit over the 1cm edge on the APS pipe.... - cant get a jubilee clip round either - as its not practical.......

It is over a year since I removed the APS CAK and for the best part of the time it was fitted to my vehicle it was without the MAF sensor and body. The problem was not the location in the inner wing per se as the K+N filter was quite able to handle the environment and in any case it was enclosed within the inner wing so relatively well protected. The problem is that the intake air from the filter has to turn through 90 degrees immediately before the MAF sensor so the air on the outside of the bend is obviously travelling far faster than the air on the inside and the MAF sensor is unable to accurately read the volume of air passing.
Steve : I fitted the kit without any trouble and then dispensed with the MAF bakalite body. I cannot remember any problem area so if there was one it was easily overcome. If you can send me a photograph it may jog my memory as to the solution.
Martin : As only a short length of pipe will be needed there might be some here of the correct diameter.

bighead, if your car is mapped for the APS induction leave it on and it will be OK.
