I have a 1993 WRX STI (import) which has a close shift gearbox.

I need a replacement gearbox ASAP, cash waiting

However, will any other gearboxes do the same job and be a straight fit?

I have been offered a 1996 WRX Wagon gearbox (import) but it is just from a standard WRX, not a WRX STI

Will this be okay?

Can anyone help as i need to know what im looking for and what not to buy

Bazil, be carefull just buying a box, as the rear diff MUST be the right compatible ratio.
Suggest you call APIDavid www.apiengines.co.uk and ask for David to sort you out.

already spoken to david mate. he is getting 18 in but most are 6 speed.

he supplied me with an engine for my last scooby

top man, just hope he can get his hands on what i need!!

how do i know what scoobys have a compatible ratio gearbox?

would the 96 WRX WAGON be? or a STI RA?

OK, you need to buy a book! Get the Haynes Subaru Imreza Turbo by Chris Rees.
Buy it from Halfords!
In the back are all the gearbox ratios and diffs etc.
The WRX Wagon has very tall ratios compared to your RA. Your RA is the 'shortest' box ever made by the Factory.
An ace guy is Rally Colin, put a Note out for him and contact number, someone will get back to you.
