Thumbs down Knocklink - WARNING

I have been driving around in the comfort zone , believing everything is Kosher as the KL is sitting there quite. The bottom green light is illuminated so everything ok ? WRONG!
I had a suspision that its just toooooooooo quite , so did the standard check -tap with screw driver etc etc .The unit dead !!-nothing lit up even when hitting with claw hammer.
Pulled the unit apart and was unhappy with wiring contacts - did the necessary and now lights up like a tree with nominal tap .
Moral - check this unit out periodically.
Happy and safe driving guys and gals - I'm back to Baku tonight.
Great

Engines have been lost in similar fashion.

You should see some activity at high RPM even if it is only a bottom green. I check for this the first time I go WOT each day.

Knocklink has no open circuit checking for the sensor.

Same here. The bottom green lights up when cruising at 4000 RPM (barely 80 mph for me )

Baku?

Mine has always worked fine from day one.

Tried a few things today that may interest a few folks. This is on a JDM 97 WRX.

First green light only at WOT in 4th - Small bonnet scoop replacing air vent, Ducting hose from bumper to induction kit, Optimax and Millers.

Both green lights at WOT in 4th - Same as above but no Millers.

Both green and both yellow at WOT in 4th - Now with scoop removed.

Both green and both yellow and occasional red at WOT in 4th - Now with hose from bumper removed.

All put back as it was due to being scared of the engine build costs!!

Not sure if gradual heat build up is to blame, or even other factors, but it just goes to show!!

Had to try though

It's quite normal for the joints of the sensitivity pot to go dry....

Mine flickers on start-up as well. A useful check that doesn't require any messing around under the bonnet...!
