I want to upgrade the ECU on my P1 to allow remapping and increased booost.

I was pointed at the Motec M800 as a nice ECU and told that this can control stepper motors for Idle setting. Can the Link also do this? Any suggestions / comparisons / comments please?

Cool

You don't actually need an M800... the M48 Pro is more than up to the job. There is more than one way to fix the idle speed control issue, don't buy the M800 just because it can do idle control.

I haven't really encountered any idle problems with my M48 Pro, once you have set the car up correctly it doesn't really need constant idle control from the ECU.

The M48 can provide switchable Launch control, Anti-lag and fuel quality compensation and a shift light on top of it's high performance engine management capabilities... as it does on my car.

Re - comment about engine stengthening - if I blow up the engine I will then get it rebuilt with forged pistons, etc. Is the Same cost. No sense in doing it until I need to! I am not aware of any probs. with the P1 in particular though...

nb - Large button above shift on left hand side of keyboard - press it once.

Moray - thanks, but that didnt answer the question about the Link ECU?

I assume with the M48pro and the LINK, the stepper motor control is 'fudged' in some fashion, where as the M800 controls this in real time? Is this correct?

Are Launch control and antilag also available on the M800?

With the link U set a the stepper at a given alue that is just a tad above where it runs to produce set idle rpm.

The Link ECU, suitable for a MY 99 car which the P1 is based on has stepper motor control.

The earlier K series chip did not have full incremental control but mine was fine. The N series chip is better with the stepper motors 150 increments being matched by the ECU and controlled to provide idle.

MoTEC and Link are good. Tailoured boost profile etc.

Regarding P1s exploding - I remember lots of STi Vs also breaking at 7200rpm - especially on NUL - could these things in any way be related! The STI ECU had a lean spot around 7000 rpm.

My Japanese spec P1 has now done 20,000 miles of 'tuned' Link performance driving including track days and hasn't missed a beat

I must add that the Link adjusts the stepper from that set value to achieve the set idle.
