Magnex 6 x 4 oval
#1
I just had a Magnex 6 x 4 oval system fitted to my01 wagon.
I am just about to inform my insurance company who are bound to ask whether it will have any affect on performance.
Can anyone tell me whether it will or not, I only bought it for the sound.
It cost around £300 to give you a clue to which system it is.
Thank you in advance

Jaywagon,it depends on your ins. company I'm with Frizzel(Liverpool Victoria) and when I told them about my Magnex and filter replacement they said it wouldnt affect my premium as it was not an engine mod. Was a bit sceptical so asked them to put it in writing which they did, nice people.

is it the cat back mate. anyway i previously had a CTR, and fitted the cat back magnex and KN induction kit, my insurance premium went up by £83 per year as they classed these mods as performance enhancers ie 10%. when i went to renew my insurance most companies included this as performance enhancers, and i rang round a couple of dozen. you should get better performance with this system, especially on a turbo.

Hi Jaywagon
I've got the 6x4 inch Magnex backbox and resonator centre section on my 99MY wagon. Bhp has increased to 247 (PE rolling road) with no other performance mods. I'm also with LivVictoria (Frizzells) and they weren't bothered about this mod.
It sounds brilliant!

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yeah I think it is a cat back system, sounds about right.
Gina, It does sound good especially when you boot it but not too bad when you want to be quiet (not often)

it has to be the cat back, as its the only one magnex do for the new age cars they do not do a back box on its own.
at a guess I would say an additional 10-15 bhp, so well within the 10% category.

I put a ProDrive BB on my MY99 wagon in Dec 2002. Tesco charged me an extra £47, which I thought was pretty good.
Tesco (in my case) said "the £47 covers you for an increase in engine power of up to 10% using exhaust modifications" The policy document I then received does not specify what part of the exhaust has been changed.
So ........ I fitted a de-cat center soon after, as I doubt very much that a BB with a de-cat center would give more than 21.5 BHP gain ... might be wrong tho.
PS. Like the BBS name. Why didn't I think of that one?

you sure. the magnex system is sold as a cat back system so should go back to the cat pipe. so would replace the rear box and 1st centre pipe.
as I understand it the system is.
downpipe (with cat)
centre cat pipe (with cat)
centre
back box.
so the magnex would replace the back box and centre and would leave the cat pipe and down pipe in place. is this wrong as i have specced something for my car based on this.

Yep - Downpipe - centre section(with cat) - back box. There is no centre section minus cat.
I myself was a bit confused when i bought my system, but it's right! The full cat back system is just the back box!

Brun,
I was there when they fitted it, it was a back box and about 6 foot of exhaust going towards the engine(very technical!).
I'm sure the guy described it as a cat back system, as you can tell, i'm not very technical in the car department.
