No Speedo Reading
#1
Can anyone offer a quick diagnosis on a lack of speedo reading accompanied by a Check Engine warning. Tick-over is erratic too, Its a UK MY98 with electronic dash. Is there a cable which could have 'fallen out' at the drive end? It happened suddenly, ie it was OK when I stopped last night (I think), but didn't work this morning.

Graham,
This happened to my car too.The speedo cable had come out of the back of the instument panel. The engine would also cut back the power when I was a bit heavy with the right foot. I was told there is a signal sent from the speedo to the ecu and without it the ecu uses a default setting. I can't verify this but do know when the speedo cable was reconnected all was well.
Hope this helps.
