Would a VF23 be suitable for use on a EJ25 engine? Won't be going over 0,9 bar - for now.

BR,

Really early spool up, but all over too soon I'd guess. And a quickly destroyed compressor wheel if you go much over 1.4 bar.

Really depends what you're after.

I'd imagine the vf23 will be like a td04 on an ej20 - all over by 5k or so. I'd still go for it, and make sure you report the results back here

But I'd also plan on buying a new turbo when you next want to up the power - I'll be trying my ej25 with the td05 before upgrading to a hybrid, just to be able to benchmark driveability differences.

We're running the EJ25 engine out of a MY98 Outback. It has new bearings, but pistons, rings and rods are standard, normally aspirated. Wanted to do a cheap conversion since it's in a MY92 Legacy Turbo. The Legacy's IHI VF12 has a cracked turbine housing (already before engine transplant) hence we're looking for a replacement and found a cheap, new VF23.

Compression ratio is 8.3 even with the atmo pistons, because these early Legacy Turbo engines have different valve angles which allow for more combustion volume in the cylinder head.

We'll be picking up the turbo this Friday.

Ah - I don't know how strong the '98 EJ25 is in standard form, maybe worth asking on the US boards. I'd be careful with the boost

You really need to get hold of a compressor flow map for the VF23. John Banks has put together some useful Excel spreadsheets which a search should reveal.

A re-map? We're on a budget here! We'll start with standard ECU and boost levels (0.76 bar I believe) which made the 2L engine with VF12 and modified downpipe run over 260 km/h on the speedo.

Standard fuel injectors should be able to deliver fuel up to 280 hp, but we'll be monitoring air fuel ratio carefully though.

The only thing that really worries me is rpm's above 6k on the stock EJ25 internals.
