Question

This has only happened to the car once but was a bit concerning. Its difficult to explain so bear with me.

I gave the car a bit of a (boyish) squirt in second gear out a corner the other night and as the revs built, I heard a very obvious whizzing noise that matched the engine revs in pitch, coming from somewhere under the bonnet (kind of sounded like a really hot supercharger whirring up).

I slowed imediately thinking "here we go" and blipped the throttle a few times....the noise was still there and gradually went quieter then dissapeared completely.

I checked the oil which was a little low but not bad at all....could the turbo have starved of oil or something or is that just a ludicrous suggestion?

As usual any comments are appreciated.

Edited coz I forgot to say its an MY94 (which could be relevant).

Greg, it could be the dump valve.

Could be the power steering pump playing up. Mine used to leak badly and whine in the same manner. Check the PS fluid level.

Best rgds.
