Why don't you fit a Scoobyecu, this would enable you to use 97-98Ron fuel safely plus you would gain yourself some additional horsepower
Look here www.scoobyecu.co.uk
and here http://shop.scoobynet.co.uk/Product.asp?ProductID=906

Definitely M8, Your standard WRX95 is set to run on 100RON fuel (JAP) so fitting a scoobyecu will allow you to run safely on 97-98RON as it will have improved fuel, igntion and boost maps which will subsequently increase power

Not all 95 wrx have the Z4 ECU, which was introduced lated 95 I believe.
Check the ECU code, as it might be a 7D or something (will check when I get home) in which case it's a lot less agressive than the Z4 in terms of ignition advance and you should be more or less okay with optimax and STANDARD boost levels.

Previous ECU code was V7 I think, although scott as seen more first hand, and this is much more tame when it comes to ignition.
However, it may be worth opening the ecu and checking, as many WRXs have had chips fitted in Japan which the owners are blissfully unaware of.
