Does anybody know if I need a remap of my EcuTek if I change my original TD04 with a VF29 or a VF35? I'm not looking for insane boost, but would I be able to hold the current 1,1-1,2 bar of my EcuTek 2.5?

Thanx

Question

I would say any change of Turbo and thus airflow would require a remap.

Wastegate duty will not match for the desire with the bigger turbo! Fueling and ignition could be O.K. (not perfect though!) depending on how the mapping is done.

Relative to the std turbo the engine will be running leaner, it will then depend on how it was to start with, you would/should get it checked out as you could be running into trouble if, for example, the car was already barely rich enough for some reason.

cheers

The EcuTek is at present time mapped by JB as a EcuTek 2.5, so i thourght that going for a let's say VF29 would'nt change that much, it seems I was wrong

Have any of you changed your TD04 for a VF29? Is the power gain OK or should I go for a TD05?

The map I did has quite a lot of top end ignition advance if you use a big turbo and hold the boost up at the top, so it could det. You would need a boost controller and knocklink and AFR meter. And you should start low and work up. I can't pretend it will be optimal though.

I don´t know what your power targets are, but I prefer the VF35 over the other turbo´s you mention! (and it can deliver 310 BHP without any problem)

I'm looking for around the 310 mark, is it possible with the VF29?

Yes, even on the lower reading rolling roads with a TMIC.

Would it be possible to do a postal EcuTek map or is my only option to see how I get the car to the UK?

I'm not mapping any longer, but isn't Mark (EMS) a fair bit closer anyway?

Mark(EMS) is in The Netherlands. From reports I've read, he is an excellent tuner with Ecutek and Unichip .

Yes, but where do you get your hands on a TD05 and what should I expect to pay for one?

Is TD05 not standard on the earlyer uk cars? If so you could probably pick up one second had for buttons.

Personally i'd say VF35 though would be better.

I have the understanding that the earlier TD05s is'nt a direct fit to the 99/00 impreza.

You just need a new compressor cover which can be done for under £100.

Fatman

Who was the supplier ?

http://www.turbometrics.com/pricelist.html list USD 975 for VF35, seems a bit high given VF34 prices USD 750 to 800 on http://www.nasioc.org

The supplier XX Tuning. I found them (and that price) via this NASIOC thread. It wasn't quite the price I got, since at that time (Oct 16th) they had just bought in a very large order of VF35s. However, they were happy to go as close to that price as they could.
