Going to read Faullt codes today to try and get to bottom of starting Engine problems. Wires under dash , which do i join together please . Black /Black. Green /green. Someone give me aq pointer to this PLEASE.

You are correct, black to black and green to green, swich igniotion to acc on, and depress accelerator pedal, then start her up drive above 10 mph and wait for the CEL to flash every 1/2 second

so let me get this right. Start her up and drive above 10 mph . then read fault code while im driving .Is that correct please ??

No you don't need to do this, you must drive at > 12mph and write down the codes at the same time as driving ;-)

Joining the black wires should display any stored faults or error messages. Joining the green wires and starting the car resets the ECU and clears previous faults,
a la MRT http://www.mrtrally.com.au/performance/

My understanding is the that the best way is to use a select monitor from subaru garage or some subaru specialist garage.
A list of the common faults codes can by searched using the internet.

How long you got . lol

Car starts perfect when cold.

When hot it refuses to fire. Doesnt do it everytime but about 8 out of 10 everything is ok. Other 2 times arghhhhh.

I suspected Crank and cam sensors after doing search on here so went out and bought new. (got them at cost price) so no problem. I thought.lol

Went out shopping.Came back to car,went to start it and it just turned over, tried for about 30 mins but no go .

Called AA out guy checked most things but alas no sparky.

He said could proberly be Amplifier. So we took it off and i went shopping and bought a pack off frozen peas. Wrapped amp up in Frozen peas. 20 mins later after we had cooled it down , stuck it back on and bugger me it started. AA guy said must be your amp on its way out breaking down. He said its happened before to him with Fords , Rover, and the worst he said was Renault. He even said hes used co2 extinguisher in past to cool them down and its got them sorted to get them home .


Have you got any ideas please or heard off anyone with similar problems .

try this link and click on the reading ecu code section. No need to start the car, just switch ignition to on position.

If the ECU is not triggering the engine check light then checking the codes will do jack, sorry I hope that somebody with more experience might be able to help,

You could try reading the codes thn clearing the stored faults. (wont help it start but will allow you to see if it's a latched fault. Or make it easier to spot a code next time you test it)

Could be coolent temp sensor but with out seeing the car and having a play, it's hard to say what it is!!!!
