Question

Manual says 1mm?! MY96 UK... seems a big gap to me?

Trying some Champion Platinum ones in case that makes a difference..

Anyone?

Cheers

Cool

Gap on OE spec NGK PFR6B plugs is 0.7mm to 0.8mm ish, IIRC.

The lean burn engines run a 1.1 gap, if that is the case your old plugs code would end in 11, then it should be a 1.1 mm gap

Sorry probably not in UK, but most of the N/A models in NZ are.

Guessed that might be the case... One assumes that this chap has a turbocharged engine, which will require a smaller plug gap.

For what it is worth, my ej20 turbo motor seems to run happily at lambda 1.05 on cruise, even with my 0.7mm plug gap.

Hi JGM,

With healthy coilpacks/coils and sane levels of boost, you should be able to open the gap up to, maybe, 0.8mm... this might give you a bit more fuel economy.

Moray,

Really.. well I set them to .7 but it was a lose .7 and the petrol consumption is less now and the car hold boost etc.. only running 0.9bar at the moment.

Thanks again

I would not let champion spark plugs any where near my scoob after working 12 years in the motor trade and seeing the problems they cause its just not worth it you cannot beat in my oppinion NGK platinum plugs for reliability and value for money.

Hi JGM ,
Champion Plugs if the right spec for your car wont do any damage just a higher risk of plug failiure and misfire compared to a NGK plug

yes I agree champion plugs fail so quickly, and cause all sorts of strange little missfires

Maybe you'd be safer on the NGK's JGM. They seem to do the job very well and the Champions might be venturing into the unknown. A broken electrode in the cylinder would cause major damage!
