Was there a lower ratio box produced for a WRX?

how come im topping out at 135 indicated then in a WRX?
i have noticed a few differences between my car and a few mates, lack of ABS, lighter panels (sound thinner, even plastic compared to there's), generally handles better. was there ever a lightweight edition??

not a RA, it still has electric windows, locking and aircon, it just seems lighter everywhere else...
like i say it seems weird its topping out so low, considering most will go on for 145ish actual, 150+ indicated

Check your vin number against the list on the SIDC site
Should give you the spec of your car, maybe the RA was removed vin number should tell you
John
Grays Essex
I think Elec /w etc were optional extra in Japan

Use the model no as a guide only though.
I've seen more cars with swapped engines and boxes than you'd believe. I once saw a car where the VIN plate said it was a 1994 WRX automatic, when in fact it had a manual box in and was an R reg with a MY00 front end!
Yours may be a WRX with an RA box.
I have a UK with a WRX RA box and 4.111 diffs and that used to max out at 130-135 until I had a longer 5th put in.
That might be an option for you. You keep the nice short 1st-4th then.
The WRX RA has a 0.972:1 5th which is virtually the same ratio as an STi's 4th (although they have 4.444:1 diffs)
Cheers

What revs do you pull at 80mph in 5th Jon. I'm running 4000rpm in a standard MY93 wrx. The early WRXs (i.e before my95) had some nice touches as standard.... closed deck block, the closer ratio box. These then seemed to only appear on ra's, sti's etc from that point on.

Its not had a gearbox change on it, its still the original as far as i know. the engine was original as i had the documentation from japan including engine numbers donw, and the gearbox looked just as old...
Its certainly a weird one my car, its got STi bits all over it yet im sure it aint an STi as its got red interior and normal manifold...
guess its just been added to over the years...

sounds like an RA, but they don't normally have the e windows and central locking, might have been added as options though.
the older RAs have low ratios in the box, and 3.9 diffs front and rear, the only way to get a longer box is to put in a longer 5th ratio (or more ratios) but you can't really get longer diffs.
