How many miles should the standard clutch last??
#1
Hi Everybody, I wanted to ask a question about the Clutch on my 2001 WRX.
The car has now 30.000 Miles, 50.000km where I am, and the clutch seems to be saying goodbye, my question is how many miles should I get out from the standard clutch?? Because from owning many cars before this one, I have never had to change a clutch so quickly!! And it seems this one has to be changed Pronto!!
I know you will ask yourself how hard have I driven it, and the answer is, as all Subaru owners, I give it a good hard drive every now and then. But I’m still not happy in having to change the clutch so soon!!
I will appreciate if any of you could share with me how long have your clutches lasted!!
Thanks!!
Dom

Thanks Lars!!
It’s interesting to know that, I wouldn't think that I drive my car harder than anybody else, and having to change the clutch at 30.000 miles is a bit disappointing!!
Can anybody else also share their clutch history?
Thanks

Cheers DEEDEE!!
Looks like or either I have driven the car to hard or Subaru fitted me a bad clutch.
Anybody else out there who can share their clutch history!!
Thanks

MY 97 STI Version2 has done 65,000 miles and the clutch is on its way out.
Asked my local subaru garage how long a clutch should last, they said the impreza turbo's eat clutches so on average you should get 60-65,000 miles out of each standard clutch. Cost to replace is about $700 pounds for a fitted standard subaru turbo clutch.
Hope this helps....

Thanks everybody for sharing your clutch experiance, reading the above it looks like their is no logic for me having to change the factory 30.000 mile clutch this soon, It should of lasted longer!!! Even thow I do feel quite guilty hahaha.
Never the less, lets see what Subaru say for it running out so quickly.
I believe the AP Organic is the best choice for the new clutch? My only last doubt, is it worth changing the flywheel?
Thanks again everybody!!!

Think I might win here with.... 200,000 k's on first clutch... (I bought the car from a retired doctor, that had owned the car from new)... suspect the second clutch may not last as long!

Well I went down to my local Subaru dealer here in Malaga South of Spain, their answer was, I bet you have driven it really really hard, obviously I do but not that hard they added to all this that the car warranty would not cover this, well, I did try to get a new clutch out of them
But what did make me a bit angry was how strict they are about the warranty policy, I mean you can’t do anything to the car, ‘Modifying’ and if you do you will lose your warranty, which to curtain extent I understand, I mean if I put a tumble dryer size Turbo in the car and the engine blew up then yes I understand the warranty would not cover this, but all I asked was about my next clutch being and AP Racing Organic Clutch which I assume is much better than standard, and if my factory clutch only has lasted 30.000 miles which is not a lot why would I have to be forced to put another clutch that will only last me the same or less. But if I put AP Racing I will lose my warranty, they must be of their trolley!!!
Depending on the country I believe some Importers are more easy and let you do curtain things under warranty, but I mean over here you can’t even fit an exhaust pipe that isn’t standard, I changed the Suspension thou, the car was unstable with side wind and felt bad, so I stiffened the suspension and lowered it, and if they dare to say something I’ll wip their ***, hahaha
I will have a chat with a friend today that knows the person in charge of warranty for Subaru in Spain and try and see what the man at the top says.
But what ever they say I will fit and AP Clutch!!!!
I can’t wait to end the warranty to be able to fit all the new toys into the engine

Changing mine next weekend..
As far as I can tell it is the original... I bought the car on 76k I think it was and no evidence in the history of a change... now quickly approaching 125,000miles!!!
Should be able to tell if it looks like the original next weekend or not.. been juddering when cold from the day I bought the car, just started slipped a couple of 1000miles ago.
