Yes they can play up. Check here for info on buying a MAF sensor only. Check it is compatable with your car though

Yoza,
Is your car not under warranty still???? Get your friendly dealer to check the error code with the select monitor. If the light is coming on/going off then I don't think it'll be your maf sensor. My guess is a cam position sensor (My cam position sensor failed when my car was about four months old and it was replaced under warranty and the CEL did exactly as you describe,ie coming on and then going off)

Good luck

Nick

I've had a similar problem once or twice during the last year or so... after having it checked on a SELECT monitor I was told that it had almost certainly triggered by a "dodgy" batch of fuel.

But I understand that the Check Engine light can also be triggered by other problems/factors - each of which produces a different error code which can then be accessed via a SELECT monitor, and identified.

If GOD FORBID I had fitted a K&N induction kit and forge re-circ DV would it be a good idea to put the OE stuff back on before taking it in?

I have a Forge VTA DV & getting the full decat fitted tomorrow. Will let you know results.

AFAIK the K&N kit should be fine!!!!! Or just get the ecutek & that'll sort all your problems

Yoza... I've just had the same run in with my dealer with a failed MAF... IM didn't know about the warrenty on the Belgium cars being a one year with extended two years... They did, however, after I sent them the documentation!!! Tell your dealer and show him the documentation and then get him to speak to IM (Warrenty Administrator). I did, however not get my 400 quid back because I had a prodrive pack (fitted by my dealer after they told me it wouldn't affect any warrenty but belgium won't now pay up!!!)

Angry

How can they charge so much for a MAF censor?

Ive just taken mine off to see if it was dirty and there is nothing in it,a piece of plastic with a couple of pieces of metal in it!

Whats all that about?

Not happy Yoza

PS Not bought one yet coz the light wont stay on,so cant have it diagnosed.....

Also my local dealer said I have no warrenty because my car is over 12 months old, with it being a Belgian import.

I thought it had 3 year warrenty?
