Exclamation

There was no play in the wheel to suggest it was the wheel bearings
Forgot to add the car was serviced in febuary, done a 1000 miles since, shouldn't a shot wheel bearing have been picked up!

Unhappy

Theres a rubbing/rumbling sound coming from the back end of my dads my99 and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions? We've tried changing tyres, checked all the brakes, no play from wheel bearings, what else could it be? The noise gets to a certain level when building speed, doesn't get any worse while going above that speed, and pressing the brakes or dipping the clutch makes no difference. Car has covered 40,000 relatively easy miles. Any pointers greatly welcomed!

I would say the wheel bearings are shot, cant imagine it to be anything else.

Wink

Sounds like a scoobysport backbox to me......

On a more serious note, i have heard of an untracable noise turning out to be the jack not secured properly..just a thought

Thumbs up

Not the jack as its more a rumble than a knock,(checked it just in case!) but it least it was an idea, cheers.

I think I have had a similar thing and thought it could be diff noise. Had it checked when serviced and the spanner man took it for a good drive and stated 'Tyre noise mate'

I have noticed since it goes away on some road surfaces so I reckon he was right.

Have you noticed your's being worse or better depending on road surface?

Ive got a slight noise on my MY99 STi Type R - only upto around 40mph though - assumed it was diff noise (althou having tyres changed today so if it fixes it, it could have been balancing or tyres etc!)
