Can anyone help:

I had to leave my car garaged for 7 weeks (due to foreign registration etc). I started every week as advised and no problems. I then left it for three weeks (holiday) and have returned to find the battery totally flat - again no problem. I jump started it and took it for a 30 minute run. All was fine but the revs kept dropping all the way to 200 and then stall. I returned from the run and slowly lifted off the gas and again the revs dropped to 200 but then slowly made their way up to 800. Revs then started to fluctuate to 600 then to 800 etc etc. The car was running perfectly otherwise.

The car has never had this problem before: it is a MY99 with no mods. What do you think it could be? sensors? fuel? or simply needs a good few runs after the long time in the garage?

WOuld appreciate some help as 7 weeks without my car has been a pain in the @rse and want to get it back to normal.

Thanks

HH

Possibly sticky or faulty Idle speed control valve.

Thanks stevieturbo,

How do you go about fixing that? More to the point where is it in the engine bay?!?!?!

Could be your MAF sensor. I had a dodgy MAF sensor on my MY99 Turbo and the engine idle would fluctuate, also when driving the car it would stall at traffic lights. Your MAF sensor is located on the big pipe that goes to the air filter box. To test if it is the MAF sensor which is faulty unplug the connector on the sensor when the engine is running. When unplugged the engine should idle as normal. If this happens then you have to replace the sensor, which you get from Subaru's at about £75 inc VAT (part no: 22794AA010 Meter CP-Air Flow) for the sensor only.

Ok this is Odd...

took the car out again last night for a run and it didn't stall once, although the revs did drop very low at times.

When I came to the end of the run, I let it idle as per usual. After about 40 secs I turned the headlights off and it started hunting????? WTF is that all about I thought. Turned the headlights on again and the hunting stopped. Very weird - expalnations?

Mine did the same, MY99, turned out to be the oxygen sensor on the way out. You could check MAF and oxygensensor voltages with select monitor or delta dash to look for a fault. Both of these can stop working properly but not show up as a fault error code. Failing MAF can lead to lean running engine + detonation, worst effect of failing oxygen sensor is poor fuel economy.

Hope this helps
