APS INTERCOOLER QUERY HELP
#1
I have ordered an APS top mount intercooler
Can I fit it & run it ok without having a remap
I am intending to get a remap done but in a weeks time
I am currently running Motec up rated fuel pump injectors & turbo & a STi7 scoop
Am i going to do any damage by fitting it before a remap ?
Cheers

Nope, shouldn't cause any problems.
May increase boost pressure a tad, but through one reason or another (lower pressure drop so turbo works less hard to produce the same pressure, or the pressure drop remains the same but the intercooler is more efficient for the same drop), the charge temp is lower. Which is what you want.
A 'better' intercooler with no mapping - in simple terms - could be considered a safety barrier.

Paul,
It should be ok, but if you monitor AFR, keep an eye on it. Are you running "open", or "closed" loop lambda ?
Mark.

It should all be fine - just keep an eye on things!
The things it may affect are boost level (possible overshoot) & charge density (should be higher). Or that's what springs to mind...
The overboost is the iffy bit. Depends how the ECU was mapped - if safely or 'on the edge'.
If you can monitor via KnockLink or similar I can't see any problems in fitting it & then just paying attention. If you don't have a KnockLink, you may want one anyway...
