what is the best (and safest - i.e MAF failure cos of the weaker foil type MAFs on my99/00) induction kit to fit to a UK MY00 Turbo.
currently have a full decat, vta dump valve and getting TEK3 remap done after i get the induction kit fitted.
cheers, peccy.

Is the risk really worth the benefits.
Would you not be better with an uprated TMIC (2nd-hand, to keep the costs down)?
Do you have a KnockLink fitted? If not, I'd spend the money on that first.

why bother?
BTW, I've a GGR/Sti/K&N thingy induction kit. Apparently you could get MAF guarantees from Mac's Power in Ireland on this kit. I've had no probs with it, and it's been on my MY99 and now my MY00.:

reason im getting one is to complement my full-decat to acheive better breathing, thinking of the Blitz SUS kit - just make sure i get it fitted properly to reduce any vibrations that may damage the MAF.
any My00's with the Blitz SUS induction kit? any probs?

I fitted the K&N 57i to my MY00 after doing a full decat and it really opened up the top end. The Itg filter I had before was definitely limiting the breathing at higher revs.
I would definitely recommend the K&N, it's easy to fit and very secure because it includes a bracket. I'm sure there have been several cases on here of MAFs failing with Blitz kits. Also there was a review linked to from here which compared the filtration of various kits. I think Blitz was one of the poorest. K&N was definitely better.
Andy.

Hello,
I wouldn't recommend a open air filter.
Why?
I drove around with a KN57i-kit.
After lotst of MAF-problems with fella's in The Netherlands (not my car), I decided to switch to the standard filter and airbox.
I wasn't waiting for any problems concerning the MAF.
After I switched back to the standard filter, the car felt much better and easier to drive.
The car was much better on the gas then with the K&N.
So I would recommend the standard panel filter.
Regards,
Hans

Isn't the std paper job good for 300bhp anyway.
I think you'd be wiser investing in something else to compliment your Tek3.
Maybe once you change the Turbo would you need to worry about fitting a cold-air filter.

ozzy, everything seems to make sense to get an iduction kit, after that and the remap i will be leaving the engine mods alone, est 290bhp will be enough for me? maybe the inducion will work better with the remap too, other than just fitting it and letting the ecu try work things out???
got oil pressure, boost and oil temp guages.

Blitz is not a good one for MY99+ cars, and the filtration is terrible. HKS also seems to have more failures reported than others. The safest in terms of failures so far seems to be the K&N going on previous posts on here. If the MAF does fail, then you get the new element (made by bosch now - 4 outputs instead of 5) and so far I've heard of no known failures of these new elements (nor Merv at PE either, as he mentioned it to me).......

id agree with ozzy
best "induction kit" for my00 would be the paper one.. unless ur going v high bhp
ive replace a seemingly fine MAF on my my99 car with a new one and the difference was noticable.. aint having nething else but paper now
but go ahead

The APS filter IF THE ECU IS REMAPPED IMMEDIATELY would be a reasonable choice. But unless you need your MAF sensor to tell the difference between 390 and 391 BHP or have a FMIC I would not bother. (I have one with my FMIC and hope my ECU can tell the difference between the above 390 and 391 BHP)
Bob and I have separately found the need to add about 20% extra fuel to compensate for an APS. This is enough to destroy an engine and has done so.
I have found it works very well with a set of 550CC injectors on a standard fuel map but you will get too much ignition advnace IMHO.
If you must have an induction kit I recommend a K&N 57i. Others mess up the MAF readings or are risky for MAF longevity IMHO.

The BLITZ SUS is fine I do have one and the performance is good too
I think that blitz is batter than K&N the jet boot they have similar Induction Kit
Like BLITZ.
So what is the bad about blitz?

It has to be said that APS filter blew up my MAF sensor, I was running a Link so it was not a problem, I only noticed it after taking the car back to standard.
I've seen issues with the Pipercross, Blitz and the HKS induction kits as well on MY99/00 cars.
I've not seen any issues with the K&N 57i. I have personally run an Unifilter RamPod induction kit for 12,000 miles with no MAF or fuelling issues!

I run about 3000km with a Unifilter Rampod kit and I have not had any MAF failures, although that was on 2 diffrent cars.

Well I run an HKS Racing suction kit to compliment my Super drager exhaust on my MY00, and have had no problems in 18 months of hard driving. Plus I got 281bhp and 265ft lbs at PE so no chance of fitting the airbox back on !!
