Car is a MY00 (sept 2000) Classic turbo, it's just had a service; new plugs (gapped to 0.7mm), oil, filters etc, etc and at the same time had a full de-cat ScoobySport exhaust fitted and an ITG panel filter. That's it though, no other mods at all.

Unfortunately things don't seem right, when sat at around 3K rpm in 5th gear and then press the throttle down say 50% (or even 100%) it seems to spool up then gets to a point and then stops (softly - not like a boost cut) and then spools more, then stops, then spools more.. almost like it's not ever getting full boost.

Any ideas at what could be causing it ?

Oh and it's incredibly loud !

Boost figures? Boost gauge?

Happens in lower gears or not?

Yep, seems to do it in the lower gears as well.

Must explain, I've got the car at the moment!

Basically, I can hear the turbo boost increasing, then it seems to fade away although still accelerate with some boost apparent, then the boost will rise again, fall back etc. Happens in all gears, from 3krpm upwards.

MY00 cars have the AE802 ecu, which is crap. Do some searches for hesitaion. Its a well documented fault. Sounds like this is what you have. Mine use to do it, but doesn't anymore for some unknown reason !

Just check it's not the dump valve opening and leaking the boost away first

Jonto: It never did it before fitting the exhaust/getting a service

Dyney: How ?

Would an ECU reset be beneficial ?

Where's the quickest/cheapest place to get a boost gauge from ?

THATS WHAT I GET TOO! - on my MY00 shortly after fitting a full decat (TSL dp - very similiar to the scooby sport dp)

have been told its the decat confusing the ecu

am getting the ecu remapped this friday to take into account the decat, also getting a induction kit fitted too.

ill let you know if it cures it...

Mine also used to do that with thoose mods, MY00 UK, Then i got my dealer to plug in his computer and it showed a fault on the exhaust side of things, so he also asked if i'd had the Ecu reset when i started using Optimax, answer.. NO, So he reset the Ecu, and hey presto, it seemed to keep pulling all the way. Sad thing is, ive put it back to standard now and its as flat as a fart.

Fitted a boost gauge tonight to see what was going on.. 3rd gear 3K rpm and accelerate hard. It peaked at 1bar, then settled at 0.9bar until the revs got to 6K then it trailed off to around 0.6bar. Same in 4th and 5th (didn't make 6K in 5th though !)

Thing is even though it seems to making the correct boost (?) it still feels like it's holding back badly, almost like it's only making half if any boost. I spoke to ScoobySport today and they suggested that it maybe the pipes that go to the manifold pressure sensor and to give them a good clean out.

I shall also try resetting the ECU though it's had about 6 or 7 full tankfulls of Optimax and done around 1400 miles so I'd of thought the ECU would've sorted itself out by now ?

I also had this problem on a de-catted 1999 UK Turbo. best I could describe it as osilating boost? (spelling??).

Later had a problem with MAF. Cleaned this out with brake cleaner and reset ECU and it went away. However the bloke that i sold the car too ended up having to replace MAF.
