What is decoking and skimming?
Decoking - removing carbon build up to reduce the chance of hotspots and detonation (and just pure flow if the 8 valve Integrale exhaust valve I recently saw is anything to go by!).
Skimming - removing a fine layer of metal to ensure a surface is flat and/or to raise compression. Not normally related to a gasket, but to the head or block itself.
I would have *thought* a turbo charged engine being driven healthily (ie; hard!) wouldn't suffer much from coking (but the Lancia valve made me wonder). I decoked my Mums Hillman Imp when I first passed my driving test - flat out in top (~90mph iirc), after a mile or so like this sparks started flying out the exhaust...a regular firework display. Strangely, the head gasket failed shortly afterwards

Sorry Stefan, I never even read this until it had bounced back to the top a few times and got me curious !!
Now if the title had been "50 bhp free" I may have been in sooner
Dowser to the rescue though
