You may have looked at this already but ......

I had the pulley nut come loose, similar symptoms, damaged the small woodruff key underneath the pulley (£4) and the inside of the pulley (£30 from a breakers) and the fan belt - cleaned up some burring on the crankshaft end where the woodruff key fits (had to remove cam belt and cam pulley underneath to change the woodruff key - good time to do the crank oil seal (£6) and cam belt (£70), put it all back together (with a bit of loctite) and it has been ok for the last 11k miles replaced all of the above.

You never know you might be lucky.

Unhappy

Got home yesterday afternoon and noticed an odd noise from the engine bay. A serious sounding rumble, increased with engine speed. Expecting the worst I popped the bonnet and had a look. The drive pulley at the front of the engine was wobbling . . .
Ran to the driver side and switched off.
It seems, according to Subaru CD Bramell Tech, the crank shaft is Fckd (or bearings, etc).
So what to do. I suspect the least expenive route will be to have a recon short engine fitted, but I'm sure there will be some useful advice coming.
So, where's a good place to get it done?

Just to add it's a MY95 turbo.
