Maffa, plenty of threads on the oil topic, a search should return quite a bit of info. Castrol RS, Mobil 1 seem to be 2 of the front runners.

Peccy,
a 5w30 rated oil is too thin for our climate (its rated as 0 deg and below) so i would go for either a 15w50 or 10w60 rated one instead

At the last service my car also had Castrol 5W/30 put in by the dealer. I suppose thats OK for now (well below 0 degrees C here in Norway), but I am a bit concerned after reading about this oil being too thin when it's warmer...

I asked the dealer if the oil wasn't too thin, but they said they never had heard of any problems...

Have a look in the manual, there is a chart with temps on there. Would have thought 5w would be ok in Norway

Hi!

In my manual 5W/30 is listed as OK below 0 deg. C
10W/30 is listed as OK from -20 and above.
Is this the same as the english manual?

Looks for me like 10W/30 is a much better overall choice...

Anyone care to check their manuals?

This is OK in winter, but in summer it usually is a bit warmer, even if we llive close to the North Pole

Best one that has been stated on the Oil threads before is Motul available from Demon Tweaks

I have Silkolene (also rated highly) 10w/50w which I use at the moment

I previously had 5/40 but was advised by all the people that know not to use this oil as its too thin

On Uk standard scoobs probably ok, but mines a modded import so I'm not taking any chances

Once put Castrol Magnetec synthetic in the Scoob, was advised to remove immediately when I asked those in the know about it.. Removed after 500 miles it was sludge!...

Unhappy

have (& had before) Magnatec in mine. asked several Subaru dealers & they mostly seem to use it around my area.
it's the right viscosity, but obviously it's a bit different with it's MAGNETIC properties (???)
not had problems so far - although never taken to oil out myself on my MY97 yet - so god knows what it's like!

probably roggering my engine&turbo by the day !! ARGGGhhhhhh
