From about 3k rpm - does it quite often - any ideas what causes this, I have a VTA dump valve - is it worth changing back to the OEM part.

I have a Forge VTA dump valve and this has very occasionaly happened to me. I think quite a few people find it happening. I wouldn't go back to standard though, I'd miss the noise!

You said that it took a wile before the car setlled, it's posible a false air leak between the MAF sensor and the engine, somewhere in the piping or connections, so that when you come off the gaspedal, the engine can still run on the leaking air...

Thanks Wally - first thing on my list to check is the piping as I suspected that this may be the cause..
