Boost solonoid???
#1
Hi, can anyone help, my boost solonoid seems to be making a louder
clicking noise than usual, and also seems to be running on for
a few seconds after switching the engine off.
Any Ideas?????, is the solonoid knackerd or maybe needing cleand.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance people.
Billy.

I have noticed that MY97/98 solenoids do seem to get a little louder with age, does the tick happen all the time or does it only start when the revs lift a little?
It's normal for the solenoid to start working above about 800RPM with small throttle openings and be audible at those revs, if the solenoid keeps ticking at idle then there is likely to be a problem with the throttle body.

Ok Billy - this is want you want ....
I had EXACTLY this problem on my MY97
it used to tick when idling and idle was high too.
it would therefore also continue to tick for about 2 seconds when you switch off the ignition (coz the ECU holds power for about 2 seconds after switching off)
I went through LOADS of things with the garage and myself to try to fix it.
we tried the solenoid itself - didnt work
cleaning pipes - didnt work
re-adjusting throttle position sensor - didnt work
la-la-la-la-la
all the readings from the ECU were correct & no CEL either!
in the end, the whole throttle body was swapped with another, inc position sensor & it fixed it !
I susspect it was the combination of the position sensor & throttle body not giving consistant readings @ idle.
you could try swapping the position sensor and see if that fixes it. but in my case the whole lot was changed !
hope that info will enable you to fix it !
cheers

Hi, Guys- thats fantastic-thanks, looks like im getting somewhere now. I think idle around 750rpm? and does click when opening throttle slightly and stops when idle again. Just noticed the loud clicking when started from warm the other day. Started, noticed clicking,,turned of- clicked for a few secs. staarted again, clicking, turned of, clicked again for a few secs, started again, No clicking at idle. was fine??????.
Started ok yesterday from freezing cold, was ok, bit ticky as usual, drove for 20mins(15min warm up 2.5k rpm max), varying throttle, noticed ticking at idle- didnt turn off but drove for another 40 mins, clicking gone, ARGHHH!!!.
Ok, ScoobyDuck, Andrew, or anyone else explain exactly where i find the throttle body and position sensor. Am i right in thinking its on top/ in middle of engine- where the throttle cables meet the engine???, and i assume there will be a box wi wires around that area that be the sensor???, ( sorry for not being very mechanica).
Is there some sort of test, i can do wi a meter or scope?
Is this something a garage needs to fix??
How much roughly is a sensor/body/sensor-body assembly???
Can i clean the sensor in some way before buying a new one???
Anybody wana buy a fec**d scooby,lol.
Thanks for the help guys,
Appreciated, thanks.
Billy.
P.S, not noticed any probs/clicking today-strange.??
Maybe i should just turn the radio up.
