Lol, I got rid of the MY00 and got a MY99 (RB5) cause of all the troubles I was having.

This is a different car.... I have already spoken to IM about my gearbox and they are sending someone next week to look at it. He's going to get a bloody good ear bashing

Cheers Phill C

They indeed probably should Brun... my dealer called me and said 2 tensioners (rollers ?) were not broken but defo on their way out, and asked if they could be replaced... he explained it was a good idea to do so.

Edit: when changing the cam belt I mean, d'oh...

Took my car in for a three year service to my local dealer (who at the moment shall remain nameless) and had the cam belts replaced. Since then the car has been running rough, down on power and the engine seems to vibrate after revving and allowed to idle. You can visible see the engine moving on the engine mounts.

What do you think this could be ?

A mate of mine, who works for another Subaru (import) dealer has said that he thinks the cam belts have been put on incorrectly (but couldn't check) and timing is out Surely a main dealer should have the expertise to ensure this doesn't happen ? After all they are charging me £60 per hour for their Subaru trained expert mechanics He said that as long as the timing is less then three teeth either way, no damage should be done. Is this correct ? I feel like getting the RAC to tow it down there

When I spoke to the service manager today, he said they were really busy today, and could I pop in tomorrow ?? I said F**k off I need it sorted out today!! What good is the car like this ? I spent £540 for the service with them last week, and another £388 to extend the warranty..... I wasted nearly two days of my Holiday running back and forwards to them while they pissed me around with a gearbox problem (difficult selecting second, third and so on) Was told they all do that sir, but I then pointed out that it didn't when I got it. They then said it's my quick shift (that was fitted when I first got the car) They then said that it could be the gearbox oil It wasn't like it 6k miles ago!!

What is going on ? This isn't good customer service now is it ?

Oh and I ran the car on Delta Dash, and according to John Banks the ECU readings looked fine!! and all the readings from the sensors were ok

HELP

Thumbs up

Babber,

Reading this BB for a while now ... man have you had some problems with your MY00 (hesitation etc etc etc). You have my sympathy

I'd march round to the dealer and refuse to leave until it was sorted or at least they give you a courtesy car (UK Turbo or at least WRX ) and sort your car out ASAP.

Incidentally I also have had hesitation (MY00 - sorted by MY99 ECU) and gearbox problems (incorrectly fitted bracket) .. however my dealer has been helpful and polite (if not always looking as though they know what they are doing ).

What about ringing IM ? A different dealer?

Hamish The Wagon.

Cool

All,

Just to let you know that all the advise you gave was correct (thanks Big Bear, John Banks and Ade (David Hendry motors)) it was right to take the car back. Looks like my cam belt tensioner was shagged, and the belt was one tooth out. New Cam belt and tensioner later and my car is as smooth as before, and all the extra power has returned!! Lol, the dealer was shocked that I took it back and told them the Cam timing is out How do you know that they asked, I just do I replied....

Just as well I extended the warranty otherwise that would have cost £200 for the tensioner, £100 for the cam belt and at least an hours labour So I got my £388 back today then really

Cheers Phill C

PS The dealer in question has redeemed themselves for the meanwhile h

Yes, just the gearbox to sort out now, and maybe I'll be happy with them again. I understand the **** they have to go through to get warranty claims through IM, but in fairness I just want my car sorted out

Why did they not notice the tensioners when they did the belt?

The new type tensioners are crap. Almost any car I have changed a belt on with this type, it has been scrap. I read somewhere that they require a special tool to re-tension them before re-newing a belt, and not to put them in a vice. I havent even needed to put one in a vice, they have all needed replaced, as there was a soft spot at the start of the tensioner, which would cause a slack belt. Best thing I have found, is to replace them with the older setup, which doesnt give problems.
