Oh ****, I'm dreading the feedback here.

Just drove home, pushing car on a little but not banzai, slowed for a few roundabouts then next time I accelerate and use a bit of turbo taking the boost up to max (0.9bar) when I heard a strange whining noise. Now I do know the difference from the induction roar so it ain't that. I knocked the car out of gear and gave the car some throttle and no noise (to eliminate the engine) engaged gear again and asked the turbo for some oomph and again the noise appears. The car does not have any dump valves to atmosphere either. Now I know noises are hard to determine using a forum but could this be something terminal ?? Please give me some help if you can. Thanks

could be a leaking hose after the turbo, or leaking pressure relief valve (the factory re-circ dump valve IOW).

might not be the turbo.

Question

Help required - Right I've just removed the intercooler and associated pipework from my 1995 WRX. The gasket underneath the intercooler is OK, the hose from intercooler to inlet manifold is also OK. Whats worrying is the hose from turbo to intercooler has a crack / split where the pipe is jubilee clipped onto the turbo housing. Could this be my problem ? If this is, then is there an aftermarket hose that would replace this or do I need to locate another Subaru original hose ? Please reply if you can help me.

I'm also trying to source a dump to atmosphere valve to replace thr recirculating one. Was told a Greer Sport valve was OK, any advise on where to buy such a valve ? Thanks.

You can get a Samco hose kit to replace the intercooler/turbo hoses for about £40, which would be ideal.

The dump valve is fine as standard, unless you specifically want a noisey one! Various models about, but not my thing, so I know nuuuutthing.

Looks like that pipe is the cause of the bother. They are only fit for the bin even when they are in one piece anyway. Get a bit of Samco and you'll see what I mean.

HELP REQUIRED -

Right I've replaced the intercooler hoses with SAMCO one's, I've also renewed the intercooler gasket. I still get this stupid Whizzing noise on boost. I had tried a bailey d/v in place of the recirc one too but still no joy. Anyone offer any other suggestions to the cause of an abnormal noise on boost.

BTW - Car performance is still 100% running 0.9 - 1.0 bar boost.

A problem i had on my R5..
Something had made its way into the intake somehow and bent one of the blades on the impellor, it didnt affect boost whatsoever but did cause a whining noise on boost...
Just a thought??

I had this on a MY93 wrx, it will have the TD05 turbo with the right angle bend. I found damaged impeller blades on the turbo if you remove the inlet pipe to the turbo and get a mag light you can just see the blsdes. They should all be even and slightly angled.

If it is this , its another turbo I'm afraid.

Mmmmm, just had the inlet pipework off and it ain't good news. It looks like one of the compressor blades has a small dog-eared blade.
