Whinning Noise under boost??????Help
#1
Right, i hope this isnt too serious! I have an STI 6 Type r V-ltd with about 26k miles. The car only came to the uk about 4 months ago and i have only put approx 2000miles on the clock. It also had a service at Option Motorsport about 1500 miles ago. Getting to the point, last night at about 1am when it was quite cold i started driving home after warming the car up for a good 10mins, and i was hearing a whinning noise when driving under about 0.4-0.5bar boost. The noise only stops when the throttle is released and the air is dumped from the standard re-circ. I first thought it may be bearings on the way but i put it under its paces to try and hear the noise more. Its very evident in third gear. The noise did ease a little but only after quite a while!
Has anyone had or heard of these symptons?? Any input will be gratly appreciated.
Regards
Gerry

I had the exact same type of noise. Changed the intercooler pipework to SAMCO, fitted someones dump valve to eliminate the re-circ dump. The noise was still there, removed the induction pipework & looked down the barrel into the turbo to find damaged blades on the compressor wheel. Hence the whining, whistle noise.
Installed new turbo yesterday and everything is OK now, except for loads of over-boosting
I hope this isn't the same for you, but locate another turbo and fit it yourself, I did mine. See these postings to help you out. Good Luck m8, keep me posted.
The 1st check on my problem
SAMCO hoses fitted - Noise still there
New Turbo fitted yesterday

Cheer m8! One of my mates had a turb that gave up but he said the symptoms were whinning but it let go pretty quickly. He has since fitted a new one and still grts a whinning noise only when its pretty cold. Im starting to think that its temperature based...
