Question

Hi everyone,

I just bought a 02WRX and it's my first time owning a scooby - I'm pretty happy.

Nonetheless, the tuning bug bit me and I would like to upgrade the induction/exhaust, in an effort to reach around 250 hp - more than enough for me at this stage. I decided to go the induction/exhaust route given that there are no sophisticated scooby tuners down here where I live (Brazil). So I dont want to mess with chips, enlarged turbos, etc., just keep it fairly simple.

Has anyone heard of BMC carbon box filter/induction kit (www.bmcairfilters.com) and SuperSprint exhaust (recently released WRX kit in the US market - www.supersprintna.com)? They are supposedly upmarket brands and F1 suppliers. Local tuners here state that they are the best brands for any sportscar.

We still dont have specific scooby tuners down here so i'm confused. Are these Italian brands better than scooby-specific products like Prodrive, Scoobysport, etc? What about K&N and Apexi filters, which lack carbon-boxes (carbon supposedly makes air intake cooler)?

Bear in mind there are no restrictions to have cat-back exhausts in Brazil so i'm looking for a full turbo-back exhaust. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Any other ideas of how to boost hp (without sophisticated modifications) would be brilliant.

Cheers
Alessandro

Hi Alessandro!

Supersprint is indeed a good Italian product. BMC are a well known manufacturer as well.

The best exhaust system would be the one with:
- the internal diameter that suits your application (ie. only slightly bigger)
- the least weight

Apexi air filters supposedly filter very well, but will obviously not let as much air trough as a metal mesh filter...

You can buy lightweight inconel / titanium exhausts from A'PEXi from www.takakaira.com

Ooops, forgot about that!

If you want a cheap and rather simple way of getting a little more boost, try one of those little metal things called DAWES DEVICE. Do a search and you should find to buy one at around $30 - 60.
To increase the overboost, tighten the screw on the actuator.

Great, thanks. Dawes device sounds neat - will look. Takakaira is a cool site too. Have you upgraded your induction/exhaust?
cheers

I meant to know which filter/exhaust you have in your car...

Another scooby owner pointed to me a website testing the filters, with the Apexi beating Blitz (metal mesh, right?) but
with the same level of performance (around 14 bhp). cheers
