Exclamation

Im after some options on this one...

I thought I had a prodrive centre section in the shed but when I took it to get fitted the guy said it had a Cat, so I didnt fit it, he said, as you didnt pay for it why not remove the cat yourself!

So I did! I knocked out the wierd grey honeycomb stuff and along with that came a bit of wire mesh and two strips of metal. It came out as clean as a whistle, inside is perfect, nothing left in exhaust.

So.... Can I fit this to my car?? Looking at the Magnex cat replacemnt pipe its just a pipe.. so now mine is also just a pipe (with an empty box) could I fit this?

any ideas appricated...

cheers

Leon

P.S, I can now see how a cat is VERY restrictive, the grey honeycomb stuff is a very tight mesh which will obvisouly greatly restrict airflow.

Yes you can fit it to your car but I doubt if you'll feel a jot of difference

Only when this is matched to a de cat DP will any real benefit be felt IMHO.

Cheap mod though.

BTW, I hope you didn't breath any of the dust in when bashing away at the cat.....

I did wonder about the dust, tried to avoid it! .... why?! presume its dangerous in some way.

I do have a Prodrive Back Box so was hoping to gain a little with the removal of the cat, do you reon it would be louder or quieter with the empty cat box rather than a straight through pipe?

It may be ever so slightly louder.

Question

When you say ever so slightly louder! Do you mean stupidly loud! I don’t want it really loud and the Magnex De-Cat pipe (without resonator) is only £60, so if that would be quieter I could go for that.

No doubt when I change the mid section ill want to change the down pipe soon after just worried about the MOT and the hassle of changing the system once a year.

leon ,

I noticed a rather distant rumble when doing the same as you with the cat . The "chamber" takes on a slight echo effect . Somewhat scoobysport but under your seat more than out the back . Sounds beaut when revving , but not much loader . I always guage a mod by my wifes response . If she doesn't notice , neither will you . I once had a dog that learned my exhaust note and was interesting to see how long she took to learning the new one .It will also go better , you will notice it more eager to rev too . The real noise comes from removing the dp cat . Davids right buy a set of ramps and do this kind of stuff youself , all you need is a set of 14mm spanner and sockets .

Thumbs up

Leon

You won't need any paste or gaskets, just use the old one's.

Yes really!

On the noise front, I doubt if you'd notice the car with the centre cat removed from one with (Std DP and BB identical on both cars).

Leon - the meet is at 7.30 pm at the Whalton Inn on the A34. There is a thread about it in the midlands section.

Cheers Ray, Decision made - will get it fitted at local garage tommorow (only £10) and will look into some ramps for future work (or removal if it sounds crap!)

Jonto, where abouts is the Stone meet? should be able to make that one, will try and get my mate with a New Sti to pop along aswell.

Leon
