Question

Here are the 3 bits the Dealer left off my car. I thought I'd only have the large piece left and would only need to trim that.

Can anyone identify what the other bits are for and are they easy to re-fit to the car now the Downpipe has been changed?

Thanks,

Stefan

Question

Here is a pic of a modded heatshield. As it doesn't include those other two brackets of mine, does that mean they aren't needed?

I don't want to start cutting until I'm 100% sure it'll fit back on.

Trying to orientate myself, but the middle one is the one that you need to put back on in between the turbo and the downpipe after releasing the top two studs/nuts to hold the trimmed heatshield back on.

Top one is from the lower part of the heat shield, i think it sits (protects) the steering. It can be a bitch to put on once the downpipe is one, but then other times it can be easy.

Alot of people seem to leave this off, however i have preferred to put it on.

Good luck and dont scratch your knuckles too much.

Hope you have some flexible spanners, sockets, wrench. Either that or small hands, preferably a childs.

Steven

Ps dont do it when its hot, my mate did on my car(he would not listen), he has smaller hands than me, burning skin don't half smell.

tapes and speakers dont go well together...

Top most is lower half of heatshield and doesnt need removing... second is the bracket that goes on the topmost two bolts third is top part of the heatshield...

Ha Ha, very funny Mr Wallis.

If you'd have looked more closely, you'd have spotted it is in fact an empty DAT case ........ smart @rse

Maybe that's why my restore didn't work properly

So Mr Clever Clogs, do I need them all put back on the car? Why did I just pay my Dealer £112 when I'm finishing the job off for them

Question

OK, I've modded the heatshield, but I'm still confused as too what needs to be re-attached to the car.

If you look at this pic, I've nothing too attach the shield too.

Am I right in thinking that the bracket in the top image (bottom one) needs to be fitted to the car first, then the heatshield in the last pic can be attached to that???

Does the bracket get attached to those two bolts connecting the downpipe to the turbo??

Stefan

Question

Couldn't budge the right-hand bolt. Looks like the original rusty one was put back on and it's seized tight. Any suggestions other than brute force for getting it off?

I also noticed by IC hose has split. I've increased the boost recently, but it I think it split when the IC was removed as the split starts at the neck of the hose and carries on about an inch towards the IC. It must have been split before since the split is above the jubilee clip. If it had split recently, then the neck would still be under the clip. Strange the things you notice after it's been to the Dealers for work

I also notice that one of the bolts between the DP and Turbo has sheered completely off. It must have happended when the Dealer fitted the new DP. Does it need to be drilled-out or should I just leave it alone?

Can't help with the DP, but the hose from the turbo has a bit of plastic over the jubilee clip to... get in the way? Not sure, but check that it isn't that which is making it look split! It should be exactly where you are pointing at!

I would say if its sealed then dont worry about it... the bracket goes under the top two... just shear them off if you have to.. as they are just nuts and bolts and not studs.. but plenty of wd40 and working them backwards and forwards...

drop me a mail if this is unclear and your still stuck..

Cheers guys,

Nom,

I think you're right. I couldn't be @rsed last night taking the IC off to get a proper look (light fading fast) and couldn't remember what the pipe looks like from the last time it was off.

I'm going to get some Samco's anyway, but looks like it's nothing to worry about. I double-check this evening.

David,

The DP/Turbo joint looks sealed. Don't know why they didn't just remove the bolt, rather than leaving it unfinished I'd guess that the bolt is rusted solid and would probably need drilled out.
