Unhappy

Hello i need some help as ive just imported a 98 sti which arrived a few days ago but the engine tappets on the right handside seem to be noisey!! i have changed the oil to semi sin 10/40 but still problem is there, also i have tried slick50 and also tried running the engine for a while but the noise does not go away. When i rev the car it gets louder. me being the fool i decided to open her up and see if my tappets were gohn but looking at the tappets they seem fine with no visual scars on them!!!!however the roung disc which sits on the tappet seemed to bejammed to the tappets on three of them.Tommorow i will put the car back together but i need some info
1 torque for the timeing belts
2 what to do if the noise does not go away...please no one say get a engine rebuild as thats all ive been hearing!!
3 or if someone in the oxfordshire area can do the job for me i will be happy to pay a expert !

thank you

Forgive my response if I'm wrong , but you sure its not the injectors , they can sound like tappets if running "rich" too .

Exclamation

As it's a '98 car it should have shim adjustable valve clearances? (Older cars had hydraulic lifters, which is why you often find older engines are actually quieter!) You say it looked ok but did you check the actual clearances? It may need re-shimming on some valves.
