Question

scooby: UK Turbo 2000 MY00
mods: full-decat
bhp: 258

boosting: peaks at 1.2Bar @ 3000rpm, then holds at 1.0Bar until 5500rpm, then drops off slightly.

is this the norm for my car / mods?

cheers, peccy.

The peak looks a little on the high-side to me (more than I got with a full de-cat anyway ) but the held is right.

Hi Peccy,

When did the DP go on? and are you running the Tek2?

If so , I would assume it maybe a slight overboost. From My experience the ECU seemed to settle down after about 300miles of driving and now runs well.

I do get occaisonal overboost in 5th on a cold, wet morning. Doesn't seem to happen in 3rd or 4th though.

ScoobySnack,

had the TSL DP fitted about 2000 mile ago, still the standard ECU, yes it peaked at 1.2Bar in 5th but it wasnt even a cold day! how much boost is dangerous?

I believe the standard UK car boosts up to 13.9PSI (0.96Bar) and the PPP up to 15.7PSI (1.08Bar). With Tek2 this now seems to go up to 16.5PSI (1.138Bar). I think this is seem as a safe boost level if set up correctly.

My car shows it is running about 17.5PSI (1.2Bar) but will confim this when the Delta Dash software turns up and I get a chance to record some factual readings. It is possible my gauge is out. As said my car does overboost slighty in 5th and will probably need to be slighty re-mapped (duty cycle taken down)due to the STI intercooler recently fitted.

How much boost is dangerous.............. this is down to experienced peoples knowledge and should be answered by those who definitely know..... perhaps John Banks can comment ? To some extent all boost is dangerous I guess..

I think it's better to say that all heat is dangerous. The actual boost doesn't add much stress to the engine overall what with it's going up & down problems (well, side to side I suppose ), but the increase in temperature caused by the additional boost (running on the same turbo with the same intercooler, etc.) can cause det which is not so good.
So there
