6 speed STI drivetrain clunk
Hoping someone can please shed some light on a noise that I have just noticed from my 2015 STI. When I bring the clutch up to biting point I get a clunk from somewhere round the gearbox area. It’s not the rear diff, it’s definitely from the gearbox area. I can rock the car on the biting point and hear it, like there’s a worn mount but I can’t see any movement in the engine bay or under the car.
I jacked up the car and if I gently rotate one of the front wheels I get some slack followed by a clunk coming from inside the gearbox as the diff starts to move the other axle. It sounds like the noise I’m experiencing but not sure if the two are related? How much slack should there be before the diff starts to rotate the other axle?
The gearbox shifts fine and everything else is good, just annoying that I get this clunk when the biting point engages. It’s only really noticeable in the first couple of gears and low speeds.
Thanks in advance.
