API Engines - THANK YOU!

API Engines - THANK YOU!
I have never done this before due to the worry that people will think I'm trying to support an advertiser or have some kind of alterior motive, but I can't help myself on this occasion.
Took my car to API for David to listen to the piston slap. I had already taken it to one company (who shall remain nameless) who sent it back to me sounding pretty much the same, and had been quoted from a range of companies up to £5,500 to have it sorted out properly.
David told me very quickly what the problem was, was happy to explain things in layman's terms and was incredibly patient.
He quoted me a price (£2,750) for rebuild, .5mm oversize, all new genuine STi pistons, new rods and crank.
When I went to pick it up, he told me they'd looked at the fuel pump and it was pretty much dead, so replaced it, plus the ported the head (whatever the hell that means! ), so I thought "here we go.. say goodbye to the quoted price".. but to my pleasant surprise the price remained the same.
They'd also given it a bloody good clean, which David says is simply because "when people spend getting on for 3 grand with us, we're going to make damn sure they get the service that warrants that".
He gave me a printed sheet with running-in instructions had a half hour chat and showed me round the premises (more subaru engines than you could shake a stick at) and sent me on my way.
I have to say, even whilst running it in, the engine feels solid and smooth, and sounds absolutely lovely.
After somehow managing to spend money with every rip off merchant in britain, it was a delight to part with my hard earned at API. It is rare to be as delighted about service to this level, hence the reason for this post.
Thanks David.
All the best
Simon

Simon, Thank you for the praise. It's been said by me/us before that ' we're just doing our job,' however it is nice to get appreciative comments such as yours.
Incidentally we ported the ' headers ', which in lay speak is the exhaust manifolding around the front of the engine and is one of the more worthwhile, easy tweaks to do.
Porting the heads is another thing entirely, and more complicated and specialised. We can do it, but it would have formed parts of a more comprehensive improvement rather than a straight rebuild.
Keep your foot off the loud pedal, bring it back for the 1000 mile service and we'll see how she goes then.
Good Luck and thanks again for the post.

LOL
Thanks for the patience once again on the headers / head thing.
Oops! I read the "running-in" instructions very carefully, and nowhere did it say I couldn't do donuts?? Just kidding, I'm being very good I promise

I agree
Gotta agree with everyone here, David is one nice bloke full of knowledge as well as being all to eager to show you around his workshop. This i might add must have pretty much every part anybody could wish for !!!!!!!
A big shout also to him for getting me out the **** by sourcing new discs and pads for me and then also fitting them on the same day !!!!
I dont mind doing a 200 mile round trip to him for work when all he does is throw bags of inthusiasm at you .
I would like to add that the brakes were put to good use this weekend on track at Castle Coombe and as David said they would be well up for the job, They were !!!!!!!
So many thanx to David and the lads who stayed a little late just to finish the job and i know where to come for my next stage of mods ( not long now David !! )
Once again Many Thanx
Tony

Thanks also, loonytoon. I noticed that my brakes got a good workout on Saturday. When I heard a late car had hit the pits wall I was already running back to my car to escape. Then l saw it was a Blue one and stayed a while longer LOL.

Would also like to thank David for the quality service provided with my mail order Exedy clutch kit and WRX fly wheel (supplied over two orders).
Delivery of both orders next morning and now fitted to my car and are working a treat.
Excellent bite, pedal return and very light action. Unlike the previous one that came out fecked and worn to the rivets.
Many thanks and would recommend API to any one who needs good quality parts at very good prices backed up by fantastic sales, advice and service abilility.
Will be in touch again soon (no doubt ) so you can take more money out of my arce pocket.
Cheers again.
