Freedom of speech?

If you say something libellous, or slanderous, then your speech is free in one way but could turn costly. I haven't seen the thread in question, but this is the way this board is run to avoid any legal issues that would reflect on Scoobynet.

Brian

Post are never removed just because someone who pays for a banner ad doesn't like a comment that has been written about them. If you flick back through Scoobynet you will come across posts that criticise Scoobysport (for example) - Pete has never asked for these things to be removed and has always preferred to answer them direct. The same would be true of any other advertiser.

Removing posts really is the last resort, but despite the legal notice that appears when you post a reply, Scoobynet can still be held responsible for the content of that message. One large (ish) legal battle would probably finish Simon for good - he (we) can't take that risk and therefore sometimes posts are deleted. Not the greatest way to do things, but there is no other way.

I can't comment on Steve's post as I haven't seen it. What I would suggest is that you email Simon directly if you feel you have been badly treated.

wud a person 'A' be entitled to say on scoobynet that a company 'X' had worked on person 'A's car and that company 'X' had NOT (in the opinion of person 'A') carried out the work to a satisfactory standard and was having problems relating to the work done.

person 'A' then (not wanting to risk further damage to their car by taking it back to company 'X') went to company 'Y' to have the work inspected and was told by company 'Y' that the work carried out was of a very poor standard and that it required immediate remedial work to put right basic faults (ie missing bolts and damage to wiring & heat shields) "allegedly" created by company 'X'

person 'A' then went to an experienced company 'Z' who found a further fault "allegedly" caused during work carried out by company 'X' and had to replace a part to put the car right (a delicate sensor for example)

if person 'A' then attempted to contact company 'X' for their views on the subject and to seek compensation for extra costs incurred but company 'X' ignored person 'A's emails wud person 'A' be able to tell his version of events on scoobynet?

not saying these events wud or have in fact happened just made the whole thing up as a theoretical example.
no such company 'X' exists as far as i am aware

Steve

Thanks for the email - I can't comment for Simon. All I know is that he has been amazingly busy trying to keep Scoobynet running, design the new Scoobshop etc. As you know Simon is also heavily involved with the WRC which means he travels to every event worldwide. With this is mind, I suspect he can't reply to as many emails as he would like.

From the content of your email, I can't see a problem. However it would appear that this is something you need to sort out with Scoobessential direct. As you say, your wife is a lawyer and no doubt she will tell you that the position on Scoobynet in such issues becomes quite complex. Personally I wouldn't want to drag this down to a slanging match on Scoobynet.

Again, shall we say that person 'A' has in ALL the posts on this subject failed to mention on ALL posts about the 2000 MILES and nice ROLLING ROAD day in between parts fitted by company X.
And that the delicate sensor was damaged due to excessive heat on the rolling road day.
Me thinks he is not being fully up front about his problems he has had.
I like they way he says nobody from company X responded to his e-mail complaint, once again WRONG.
Its so easy to blame work carried out earlier for a fault that may occur, believe me i know, a garage fitted my exhaust and i developed a serious problem 2 weeks later when a part connected to the exhaust was found to be faulty, like person 'A' i wrongly blamed the exhaust fitting,i was politely put right by the garage when they fully explained the cause of the failure.(Humble pie moment)

All who received the email off said company, know exactly what happened. I believe there was even an explanation as to what might have happened to "Person A's" bolts and heat sheild.

"Person A" even told the said company and at least 3 others that he had done 1000 miles and a rolling road day. Oh and I'd be very surprised if yet another company in the equation rolling road actually had the air con on, as it is always bust when I go! Did they give you the one about it been too hot for a power figure per chance?

Now I really do think it is time to put this one to sleep, I personally believe the said company has tried his best to help, and know to "Person A's" own admission that they did a cracking job, so why drag it through 3 other companies for nothing more than finger pointing and points to prove?

Have you any idea the damage people like you can cause??? Give the traders a break, if someone picked your job to bits, no matter how well you do it, you would know what it felt like!

I did not want to take my car back!
I did not say they did a cracking job!
I took it to RR to check it out ! wouldn't you!! if you thought it was not right!

One of the other two put the problem right , the other put the missing bolts and corrected the heat shield!

only a buffoon is gonna take his car back to a garage he believes f#cked his car up when it was there last

the guy was not happy with the job and 2 other garages he trusted confirmed faults with the original workmanship

wot is wrong with him reporting his experiences?

ok the 1st garage didnt get a chance to fix the probs but how many do?

they had a chance to do a top quality job and the blew it

end of story
