Question Scrolling with mouse. Windows 7

Say I am using Word (2003) and call up a folder and have a window with lots of files listed.

I want to use my mouse wheel to scroll up or down before clicking on a file to open it.

Sometimes mouse works fine but sometimes the wheel doesn't scroll down and I have to drag the sidebar to get to the folder I am looking for. This is a pain so how can I get mouse to scroll down every time.

What is the trick I am missing please.

Thanks, David

hahaha, go buy a new one

also could try updating the drivers, but mice go over time, tend to get clogged up with crap, can strip it down adn clean it out to see if the sensors blocked.

It's not the mouse as I have the same problem with other mice.

The window must be active to scroll with the scroll wheel or keyboard. Clicking the scroll bar makes it active.

Is this your issue?

No, it's not really, it's what I used to encounter frequently back in the days of doing desktop support etc. Google it

Katmouse is your friend. Lets you scroll any window the mouse is over without having to make it active.

One last try (waits for insults )

Say I am looking for a single WORD file about a letter to my kid's headmaster. I go to MY DOCUMENTS and click on a folder called SCHOOLS. I scroll down through that and click on a folder called LETTERS TO HEAD as I know that's where the file is. But I find I cannot use the scroll function to scroll up and down on that folder. Sometimes it scrolls but usually not.

Not the end of the world but it is a nuisance as I am always looking for old files.

David

And I have switched computer on

Do you also see unpredictable scroll wheel behaviour when browsing or only in Word?

Weird. Can you manually apply updates to Office 2003?
