Default Reballing a 60gb FAT PS3.

Anyone know where i can get this done in the Staffordshire area ?.I don't want it reflowed or it getting attacked with a heat gun. This cost me £300 some years ago and want it permanently working again.

£65 sounds like it's worth it.But only has a 3 month warranty.I will see if a friend of a friend can do it cheaper and with the thermal paste i have here.

i must have chnaged the thermal paste on mine a dozen times with all different kinds and amounts and it was still louder than my vacuum. in the end went for a ps3 slim on the cheap from tesco and never looked back.

The decent places reball using lead solder rather than the lead free which cracks after many heat cycles causing the issue.

gotta love health and safety ... no you cant use lead that allows solder to actually flex .
just use this rigid stuff it will be fine ....

We manufacture stuff to go on aircraft, bad vibration and thermal issues to deal with, no lead in our solder and it all works fine (most of the time ).

I suspect the with the consoles the thermal management isn't great but then why spend ages trying to sort it for something so cheap and easily replaceable. Such is the nature of modern consumer electronics bar a few premium Hi-Fi brands.

Sadly it isn't fine, the poor thermal management in consoles and the heat cycles coupled with poor seating of heatsinks causes the pcb to flex and the solder eventually cracks.

Using lead free solder just results in further rings of death later on, reballing with lead/tin solder solves the problem for longer and even better if you get a decent heatsink kit as well.

Lead and lead free solders are both easily available, the lead free is used for commercial electronics due to issues with disposal of the pcb's after use.
