Default How do you watch tv on the Ipad?

Hi, i'm thinking of getting an ipad, and one reason is to watch tv. How do people watch tv.

Both tvcatchup and the BBCiplayer live both suffer from freezing and breaking up (watching bbc now on my laptop).

How do people watch tv. I have a wireless g network.

If you have a poop internet connection then the iPad version could be better, but won't work miracles, you can however download from iPlayer to the iPad and watch when you like.

It wont be any better on the iPad. On both the laptop and iPad version you can download to watch later.

What speed is your broadband? You may be better off looking at alternative ISPs or technologies like FTTC if you are lucky enough to be in an enabled area.

Watching live.

Download speed is 4.4 mb/s.

What about a freeview tuner plugged in the side?

I use the tvcatchup app for my iPad too and it always works. My broadband isn't great and at best I see 4mb down and .6mb upload.

Your ping is more important than your net speed as if your ping is high then that means that you have issue with a consistent connection which is essential for live streaming.

This could be down to the ping on your network being not consistent enough to hold a continuous stream. Having a dodgy ping is like your car running out of fuel stop starting and stuttering down the road as not enough fuel is coming through.

You can check this by doing this:
Go to start > run (in vista and further it is start then enter CMD in search) > enter cmd and enter on your keyboard > a new box will pop up > enter as follows without the quotation marks "ping -t www.tvcatchup.com" > then hit enter on the keyboard > leave it for about two mins and then right click on your mouse over the box and 'select all' > hit enter on the keyboard > paste the results back here.

next

Go to start > run (in vista and further it is start then enter CMD in search) > enter cmd and enter on your keyboard > a new box will pop up > enter as follows without the quotation marks "tracert www.tvcatchup.com" > then hit enter on the keyboard > leave it until it finishes and then right click on your mouse over the box and 'select all' > hit enter on the keyboard > paste the results back here and we will be able to see where the issue is.

Another thumbs up for tvcatchup here - watched the whole of the movie Jumper last night on the iPad (in the bath !) and never stuck or froze once - and never have any issues with it. Perfect.

That seems okay paulr, I should try that at peak times as well to see if there is any traffic shaping on your connection.

Also, try different browsers to see if there is any difference as Adobe Flash acts differently with different browsers. As giving the example of the Chrome browser it has its own in built Flash Player which is vastly inferior than a native instal of Adobe Flash and I always disable it by going to
Code:
chrome:plugins
in the address bar to open the Plug-ins page.
On the Plug-ins page that appears, find the "Flash" listing.
Disable Adobe Flash Player completely, click the Disable link under its name.

Then go to Adobe and download a proper Flash Player version and you will find it works fine then.

Okay thanks. Would having tvcatchup on one laptop, and browsing on another make a difference?

All depends what you are doing on the other laptop and how much available bandwidth you have - as for example if you are opening a large webpage with lots of data then it will suck bandwidth data causing streaming to stutter.

You are very lucky then as your hardware is most probably good enough for the Android OS, but that is where a lot of people are misunderstanding Android.
They think just because it has the latest lollypop version of Android on their device that means it can play anything which couldn't be further from the truth.
I have a myriad of devices on my desk both Android and iOS but if I were to pick one for reliability then it would always be iOS as the OS is designed for the hardware which is a perfect marriage - the same almost can be said of Google Nexus 7 which was designed around the Android OS, but it has one or two annoying features that make it my backup device to iOS.
