Question Problematic printer

How many pages does a tri colour cartridge ( there's a black one in there as well) last

This is hp deskjet f 380

I swear to God I get <<20 pages before there's an error with your cartridge signal ,and I dont do colour at all

Honestly dont think anything winds me quite as much as printers

Have you got the printwer driver set to black only?

If not it might actually be using all the coloured ones to make black instead of using the black cartridge.

Printer >> options >>> B&W only or something like that.

5t.

It may be using some up with cleaning cycles. Many printers you can over-ride the errors and get much more use out of them before changing.

Get a cheap HP laserjet printer, will do about 10,000 pages to a toner cartridge!

I've got one of these at home http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-LaserJe...item3f19034981 And they just keep going and going and going. Never had to replace the toner cartdige yet after about 4 years ;-)

Oh and they also Duplex which is super handy and do something like 30 pages a minute

Surely I could just run on black cartridge Anyway

Thanks.

Bloody hate em I do

I'd go laser printer, but really I print nothing, nothing at all much - that's why I'm pissed

Typically the cheaper HPs use the colour cartidge to print greyscale.

I learnt that long ago when printing accounts with inkjets in draft mode, grey text was actually utilising colour pixels! (get a magnifying glass out and you'll see)

Had to disable greyscale in the driver settings...well that was until they changed the driver software preventing me from doing it.

The higher-end inkjets don't seem to suffer this, my Canon MP970 whilst uses a bit of colour ink for cleaning the heads, it does use the black ink tank for printing greyscale. Some of the photo colour ink tanks are only on the second set - its a 3yr old printer IIRC

Anyway, I don't use it much for document work...I VPN it to the Epson CX11N network laser printer at work. £22 toner....good for about 5000 pages

Colour uses even more ink.

Try this to confirm whats happening: Print a light picture in greyscale mode (like a picture of a sky with clouds etc), get a magnifying glass out and look at the each dot that makes up the grey image. Mainly the light areas (i.e . clouds)

If you see any majenta, yellow or cyan dots...its using the colour ink to print the greyscale. And that'll be where all your colour ink is going.

HP printer drivers are designed by the devil. I'd rather shave my own tongue than own another HP.

Doesn't help you much I know but just had to get that off my chest

The Deskjet 700 series was the last decent inkjet they made IMO. Closely followed by the indestructable tank that is the Deskjet 500series...could throw that out a first floor window and it'll still work

So good that the same cartridge/internals are still found in modern franking machines (Our Francotype basically takes a HP deskjet 700 cartridge filled with red franking ink instead of black! ).
