Question

I have recently bought a HP Deskjet printer 970Cxi. Good printer, however when checking the print progress by clicking on the printer icon, the total number of pages is correct but the pages printed so far is incorrect. Thus I get the following:

1 of 1, 2 of 1, 3 of 1, 4 of 1 etc
and
1 of 20, 200 of 20, 550 of 20, 600 of 20.

I've written to HP and the reply I got back off them was they were aware of the problem and they are working on fixing the problem but didn't know when the problem would be sorted.
Just out of interest has anyone else had similar problems when using a HP Deskjet printer? And has anyone been clever enough to overcome the problem as it is quite annoying when you have sent several documents to the printer and you cannot tell how far the printer is through the jobs?

Many thanks,

Paul.

Sorry, Paul - that was a long night!

What Operating System are you using and are you using Microsoft or HP drivers?

Cheers,

Chris.

Chris,

I am using Windows 98SE and the HP drivers that came bundled with the printer. Is the problem happening on your machine?

Sith,

The HP drivers I am using are the latest ones. It just seems strange that the HP drivers would do this. It is not as if HP don't know anything about printers.

The answer I got from HP was that they were working on a fix:

Hello Paul,

Thank you for contacting Hewlett-Packard's Customer Care e-mail support.

According to your e-mail, your issue is with the page count of the driver software.

Hewlett-Packard has been made aware of this issue and it is currently
under investigation. Should a solution become available the solution
will be made available on the HP Customer Care site at

Sounds like a driver problem. If HP are working on a fix, then I would be checking their site regulary for an update. And I doubt very much there will be a way around it until the fix arrives.

If there has been an older release of drivers than the ones you have, you could download these and try them.

Paul,
the 970 driver is terrible. It interferes with Dr Solomn anti virus stuff as well. HP also know about this. You can use a 540c driver to get basically the same prints, but it doesn't have all the functionality. If you are printing text you won't notice any difference (other than the driver is faster and doesn't tie up your processor as much.) Hope this helps...
