problems using samba on linux to print to a windows printer
#1
Hi.
This is really doing my head in !!!
At work we have a networked Linux pc which uses to samba to print to several windows based pc using the smbclient.
It works fine on some printers but not others .
Entering smbclient -NL <pc name> at the commmand line shows the shared resources for the particular printer....on the pc's which print fine the resources are shown....
...however on the problem pc's, no shares are listed and an error message is shown, something like 'errdos access denied...' or something.
So i think it that the offending pc isnt shared properly....but it is!! I've tried everything and it's winding me up lol!
The pc is a win 2000 machine although i am not sure if it's relevant.
Any advice would be great.

If this only happens on printers shared on Win2K machines, you might want to check the reg entries on those machines to make sure that their configured to accept plain text unencrypted passwords for SMB shares.

thanks guys
i've been reading up on win2000/samba and apparently win2000 isnt samba friendly.
as it wasnt crucial to have win2000 on the pc, i put 98 back on it and sure enough it works fine.
not an ideal solution but it'll do for now.
