Slow hard drive

Using pcpitstop my computer passes every test except the hard drive speed test, apparently it is running at less than 1/2 speed.
I de-frag every two days at least. It is a 20gig and is half full
Any ideas?

is your HDD ATA100 and your HDD controller support it? then you need a ATA100 IDE cable (80 pin cables).
other things to check is in the BIOS. check your HDD is set to LBA. and in your OS, check that the HDD controller (in device manager) is running with DMA (and not PIO).
