Default Apple TV

Is there a jailbreak out for the Apple Tv 3rd Gen? On v5 software?

Can't seem to get anywhere on Google - probably down to the fact it's not called Apple TV 3 or anything lol

Not yet there isn't. Keep an eye out here. aTV Flash needs a JB for it to actually be useful, so they too are waiting for one to come out.

I have seen that the new iPad(3) / iOS 5.1 has had some progress made in being jailbroken, so hopefully that will aid things on the ATV front.

Cannot comment on ATV2 or ATV3, but I have an ATV1 and have been running it for two years jailbroken and not had a problem with it. I used patchstick to JB it and then copied XBMC and NitoTV onto it, and they have been great.

Worst case, do a factory restore on the device and it'll be back to normal, same kind of thing you would do with an iPhone to get it back to it's non-JB'd state.

I have an AppleTV3 on order, so I'm hoping the JB will be available soon as I really don't want to use iTunes to manage things.

thanks Markus

Felt like splashing out as I went past the Bull Ring Apple shop - ended up buying the Apple TV 3rd gen. I asked if they had the 2nd gen and but apparently they get sent back once a new model is released.

At least I can use Netflix on it until I can find a jailbreak. Want to ultimately install Plex on it - have Plex Media Server running on the Microserver in the house and it is a great bit of kit (streams to my ipad2, iphone etc).

So whats the difference between ATV2 and 3 ? Apart from 1080P playback which I thought could have been achieved with ATV2 with a software up date .

I have ATV2 non JB'd and very happy with it , Would be nice to have 1080P though

I agree.... waiting for a jailbreak as there is no excuse for lack of support for DNLA streaming these days. #disappointed

Bored of my Apple TV already! Need to put Plex on it

How do I add more 'channels' on it?

Channels? What exactly do you want to do?

Oh, and it seems a teardown shows that the ATV3 has 512MB RAM instead of 256 of the ATV2, still has 8GB flash for onboard storage. Seems it has a second antenna as well.

You need to add xBMC and IceFilms on your jailbroken Apple TV. Seas0npass is what I use to jailbreak it at 4.4. It is a bit more hit and miss than jailbreaking an iPhone in that I had to do it several times for it to work.

You cannot Jailbreak OS5 yet though ...
