Which Windows 7
I'm going compact a the end of the month, and buying this:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/236579
It doesn't come with windows 7, but I want to put it on. But which one?
I've been using XP Pro for years, so I'd like the equivalent of that. But there are 32 and 64 bit versions available.
I'd like to take advantage of 4 or more gigs of RAM, so whatever version that needs.

Hi there if you have installed more than 4GB memory go for 64bit without doubt,i have installed W7 Ultimate 64bit and its simply perfect...
If you have less than 4gb and you don't want install more memory at future don't bother with 64bit and go for 32bit,which will recognize 3.5gb...

It can only take 4 Gb as stated in the advert... get the cheapest version.
Some will be needed for graphics...

Oh yeah
I will be going for max ram, and a 750gb HDD. So that is the cheapest one they do at the moment. There was a 500gb version, but its discontinued.
Its another 85 quid for the same setup, but just with the Win7 licence.
So it'll still be good for a 64bit version with 4gb?

thanks Jura, but I'm really looking for something as compact as the Revo. Been debating it for well over 6 months.
I currently have a huge Antec case with componments I put together myself, and have done that for all my machines. This is the first time I have bought off the shelf.

I really would play with one first...
Limited memory expansion, no video upgrade, no processor upgrade, no optical drive, and it's not that cheap...
I bought an ITX MoBo for £60, add a G6950 and some memory, an optical drive and HD ( from your old PC ? ) and I'm confident it will out perform the "cute little box" solution. Mine is a top spec wee box at 4.4GHz
IMHO

I'm OK with that and have been considering it for age's now, and its the cheapest you can get one of these for.
My "office" was relocated to the kitchen, because of a new arrival using my old one. So now, I just want something small and hidden, and not a laptop.
I did consider something I could put together, but even micro ITX cases are not as small as this. Unless you know otherwise.

Stop trying to talk me out if it guys, I made my mind up ages ago
Although this looks good:
I must admit, I will miss the abilty to direct add a drive to the mobo. I had to make some changes to the 750gb HDD's I have in my ps3's, using Samsung ES tool software. It had to be done by booting to the exe from a CD, then having the drives connected via SATA. So I know I wouldn't be able to do that with this.
If you reckon you can price something small like that up, but a better spec, let me know.

Sorry, but as you still need a keyboard, a mouse and a screen ... WHY ?
LoL
dunx
P.S.
Seriously, my media server is about the size of a a pair of trainers (box) + Keysonic RF540 wireless keyboard and a couple of 1Tb drives and everything I own is in it. Sadly mine is too small to hold an optical drive, but has a GTX460 for 1080P goodness and an i5-655K @ 4.4 Ghz with 4 Gb of DDR3 1600. It sits near my Cyrus system looking cute...

Yeah I know that, I have a docking station, but I'm just not into laptops. The ones I have, one is a work one, the other is the missus netbook, the other two are older ones I used to use.
There is nothing wrong with wanting something purpose built. For my setup, the Revo is what the route I want to go.

Zotec or ASrocks
but to answer your question
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e/default.aspx
but in Laymens terms unless you need Bitlocker or Domain Joining abilities ( company stuff ) home premium will be fine.
Starter is ok but doesnt include Media Centre.
Ultimate is of course the best but most of us never use half its features.
The corporate editions are Professional and Enterrpise
Pro edition doesnt have Bitlocker but can be domain joined,
Ent has bitlocker.
personally if its a static PC you dont need bitlocker, this encryps your drives IE laptops.
So Home premium, if its free from work Use Ultimate if your leeching their MSDN otherwise if your a gold partner and have the volume LIC it has to be Win 7 Pro

Thanks for clearing that up, Little Ted.
I've got my Revo, on it now. It is a great piece of kit. Not got Win7 yet, so having a play about on the latest Ubuntu. which is growing on me rather quickly.
I've also gone from a 17 inch, non widescreen LCD monitor, to a 23 inch LED. So maybe thats why I'm so pleased with the setup.
I might go for dual booting with a Win7, as there is not a lot of Linux support for certain things.
