Default Recommend me a newgroup please?

Thanks to Pimmo (DE74 for 100Mb mate?) I've realised I'm not taking advantage of my 50Mb link... So recommendations for a good newsgroup would be really appreciated.

Cheers!

I'd recommend Newshosting.com - I pay about $12.95 a month for unlimited downloads and max out my 50Mb connection with about a dozen connections over SSL...

If you're going 'newsgroups' down fail to look at Newsleecher - and especially (or only) the excellent (and again worth paying for) "Supersearch" service it optionally provides. Superb...

Astraweb I use nzbrus to find the nzb files. Brilliant site where people can leave comments and no files are fake and are not password protected

Newhosting gives 700+ days of binary retention, 30 concurrent connections and SSL. ISPs... don't.

Newsleecher Supersearch is the best search facility for newsgroups, but is a paid for service.

but that's $29 a year you can pay http://www.nzbsrus.com/ $10 and that's forever.

Give it a try you might like it

I love NZBrus for the fact people leave comments on the NZB files to tell you if the quality is any good and if the RAR files have CRC errors.

Readers: I use Newsbin Pro on my windows machine (you get a discount from astraweb) and SABnzb on my mac which is free

If you use Virgin medias own newsgroup address most of the stuff downloads incomplete so its better to just pay for astrawweb.

I used VM newsgroup for years, finding NZBs on NZBmatrix (people leave comments and verify and you can check nfos) and hardly ever had an incomplete download. You just got be getting stuff as soon as it appears. I still really rate it as a free service.
I'm just narked i moved out of a cable area to the middle of nowhere and get 2.5meg adsl now

How does newsgroups differ to torrent based downloading?
And why would people want to pay, to effectively do some thing illegal (DL copyrighted material)? I'm not saying I don't do it, just can't see the benefit of paying for it.

on a more technical note, you are downloading from the newsgroup service at full chat, whereas torrent speeds are limited to the upload speeds of all the people you are leeching from.

Yup , why wait a day when I can get a 1080p film in 20mins.

Also it does affect you upload speeds unlike bittorrent.

Oh and not forgetting SSL

So its just a speed thing? But if you are DLing copyrighted material, you can get caught just as easy? Or is the non uploading part "saving" you from getting caught?
Genuine questions, not trying to stir anything up.

I've never heard of anyone getting prosecuted for downloading from Newsgroups, all of the very few cases I have heard about were using P2P type stuff.
Not saying by any means that it is impossible to track what you're downloading however.
Personally, I don't really download that great an amount, but would think about an SSL connection or secure VPN if I did.
