Question HELP - before I throw the lot in the bin!!

When I open Microsoft Outlook (my e-mail program) it tries to install MS Office!!

If I can click on CANCEL as it tries to do this I am OK .... but, if I miss the CANCEL chance the whole computer hangs up looking for MS Office to install .... !!!!

Has just started doing this over the past 3 weeks or so. I did have a clearout of programs, but left MS Office alone.

MS Office works fine ... and I have told Outlook NOT to use WORD as it's default (this is what I thought was wrong).

Any ideas?

Outlook is part of most editions of MS Office.

Does it ask for the CD? If so, let it fondle the CD and it might sort it's self out.

Yes, after the first 'CANCEL' command it does open up a new box saying it's looking for SR-2 or something?

It is MS Office 2000.

it looks like in your clear out you may have removed some sort of addon to the MS office suit (they are all quit well integrated)

so when you open outlook it just tries to be helpfull and reinstall it (Mickysoft called it the self healing feature)

doe it do the same thing when you open any other of the ms office programs?

SR2 refers to Service Release 2

and it looks like you have removed a component from outlook that was in SR2

did you remove the SR2 component in your clearout

I have no idea!

Will SR 2 be on the initial disc or is it like a Service Pack that may have updated online automatically?

Your explaination sounds right ...

mm not easy to find as it is quite old now

but put the following link into your browser

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...-us/sp2upd.exe

and it will give you a dialogue box asking you to download "sp2upd.exe"

download it and run it

I am very suspicious of any downloads from the internet -- but as you can see it is coming from microsoft.com -- so I think you will be fine

have you got the original office 2000 media btw

Did all that, it asked for the original disc ... which I put in the CD ROM drive .... then an error came up

SR cannot continue so it says ... it thinks my hooky MSOffice copy isn't kosher .....

you could always try thunderbird as your mail client (it will import the PST) and openoffice as your office application.
