Xbox 360 Freezing
After 3 and a half years, my 360 is now freezing soon after playing any game, with the only option being to turn off and turn on, before it inevitably freezes up again soon after.
Having had a look on line, it appears that this is the start of the "ring of death" situation.
Is it?
Do you think I would be worth cutting my losses and trading in for a PS3?

Yep, same thing happened to mine. Typical problem was my son was playing, it locked up, made a loud buzzing noise and the TV displayed all kinds of weird and wonderful colours on screen. Powered off/back on again and then same thing happened again some minutes later or an hour later. Eventually we got the 3 red lights and it's just been repaired by MS and returned last week! (360 Elite)
Good luck

Thanks for your replies, it sounds like it is on it's last legs!
Do MS repair them for free then and replace it with a new console?
Do you get like for like or a new upgraded console?

But it does not fix it longterm.
Does the box freeze with the HD disconnected?
Sometimes clearing the HD cache can fix it, mine current elite started freezing about 2 years back, nearly always when playing Gears of War 2, cleared the HD cache and its been fine ever since.

trade it in while its still running, or last it out and fix it... i'v fixed a few from the rrod. it isn't a permanent fix as the over heating of the x clamps usually ***** the motherboard in some manner. but its cheap and can stretch life another couple of months or upto another year or so.
the new one isn't covered for any rrod but supposedly with the new motherboards and cooling set up it shouldn't get it... that and they don't have red lights in haha. mine has been on for some pretty prolonged periods and nothing yet in terms of glitches.

I get a screen freeze sometimes but I only get it on 1 game, the culprit being Fallout 3. The game is installed on the hard drive.
Unsure why it's just this game that freezes, maybe it has something to do with the game having more data running in the background.
