Default Ebay Laptop Power Supplies

I needed a new one for my laptop and tried to get one in Maplins and a local computer shop, both wanted 40quid! As I wasn't willing to pay this, I ventured onto ebay and got one for a tenner brand new delivered. Now are the shops ripping off customers or is Ebay selling extremely dodgy(possibley dangerous) electrical goods?

10 quid is amazingly cheap. Unless is was second hand or just old stock that needed to be moved on....

I've had a couple from ebay, the ones from hong kong etc seem to be cheap tat, really light, thin brittle plastic, and actually had 1 make a huge pop/bang and never work again.. After that I did buy another from ebay, but an official one, much better quality, and it's been fine since.

I collected it - he had a whole box of them, all individually

packed and wrapped

Still going strong

I would be very wary about buying one of those cheap power supplies. Have heard horror stories about them catching fire and also frying the laptop due to bad internal wiring. Can I ask what the problem with the laptop is? As if it isn't charging when turned on (only when turned off) it could be an invertor issue, which is what I have with mine. (toshiba).

Mine is a toshiba too, oddly as you just mentioned charging mine has the same issue! I just thought the battery was done after 2years of abuse!

The power supply is physically broken due to my stupidity. Trying to asphyxiate myself with the laptops powercord whilst watching redtube was only going to end in disaster.

Power supply arrived yesterday, does the job nicely and looks identical to the one it replaced so can only assume its a asthetically good copy as it makes no bones about not being Toshiba product.
