BT still suck
After having a lengthy chat with a rep due to me not being happy with my speeds i left them to move to Be*
The BT rep told me that 4mb would be the best that i could get, even though i could go on my neighbors unsecured wireless system (talktalk) and get 6mb.
So i dumped them for Be* a while back, speeds jumped up from 4 to 7.5mb pretty much instantly and have stayed at this level ever since, apart from one day when i had trouble for a few hours.
Although it looks like the speeds have increased again.
Currently downloading GTA4 from steam at 1.1MB/s and have been for the past hour
It peaked at 1.3MB/s
But why is my router still syncing at 7.8 ?

Yep. My router (Draytek) syncs at 8.128Mbs (I'm with BT ...) but this is only the speed at which it syncs with the BT exchange. So, essentially, the fastest my line can go. Between the BT exchange and whereever you're downloading from is another whole set of problems so you'll never get higher than the sync speed.
*ALL* the wiring between your router and the exchange affects it so that includes your house wiring. At a previous house I got an extra 0.5mbs just by rewiring from the master socket.

yes should have read wiring plus all connections between router and dslam in exchange (every connection is a potential fault)
